Shit?!?

Yesterday was a hard day for me. I shit my pants at the mall. The worst of it is I didn’t even really know it happened. I felt some pressure but couldn’t feel if anything came out or not. But as I was walking around JCPenny, I could smell something “poopy“. 💩 I wasn’t sure if it was me or not so I went to the nearest bathroom and sure enough it was me. I had anotheraccident” and the biggest one to date. Fortunately for me I was wearing a extra long pad because it’s that time of the month and it caught it all. Otherwise – I am not sure what I would have done. I would have had to get rid of my underwear for sure but possibly even my pants. I was shopping alone so it would have been extremely difficult to buy new pants without someone noticing the immediate need for them!

Needless to say, I did have some doubt about my upcoming ostomy surgery but not after this. I refuse to live like this especially when it keeps happening more frequently. This is not a way to live. Life with an ostomy will be so much better! 🙂

Thanks for reading 🙂

Hi! My name is Jacquie... you can call me... Jacquie, Jax, Jack, JC, jcrohnie, or whatever other clever nickname you can come up with! :) I am always open to new nicknames. I recently turned 30 and I am not sure how I feel about it yet, lol. I also have Crohn's disease. I was diagnosed when I was 16 years old. It's been a roller coaster ride to say the least. I currently live my parents as I try to manage my health. I also have two dogs that I love more than anything. I intend to share my realities about living with Crohn's disease... even the gut wrenching details. I suffer from multiple GI and non-GI symptoms related to crohn's disease. I had surgery in 2007 to have 2 feet of my colon removed. I was in remission for 5 years and now symptoms are back as fierce as ever. I tend to find the humor in most of my everyday life- so I plan to share my humor with you. I plan to share the realities of anxiety and depression as well. I tried to be so resilient to both anxiety and depression... but the truth is it happens. It makes me human... not super girl! Which is good because I don't think I could sport spandex and a cape, lol. :) Anyways, I intended to share my everyday adventures and misadventures, diet and lifestyle changes, holistic approaches I try, medications, symptoms, and life with Crohn's! Happy reading and thanks for stopping by my blog!

  1. I have definitely been there! I can’t even count how many times I crapped my pants. The one that stands out right this second is when I was pumping gas and it just came … And kept coming! I did pay with my card at the pump so I didn’t need to go inside so, honestly.. I just said “F” it and just kept pumping my gas while simultaneously pooping my pants! It was great! Not!

My ileostomy was the best medical decision I’ve ever made .. Hands down! When is your surgery?

      1. Any advice for after the surgery? Like what I should bring to the hospital? I am having both the ostomy and Barbie butt surgery lol. Thanks so much for your advice and support! 🙂

      2. That’s the same surgery I had .. Man! It was so long ago (10 years) .. I had (have) an 8 inch incision so, for me, laying down was the worst. I’m pretty sure I slept in my recliner for the first 5-6 weeks. No exaggeration. That was the most uncomfortable for me. Biggest advice … don’t be afraid to take your pain medicine. If it’s prescribed as every 3-4 hours then take it every 3 hours (whether you’re hurting or not). The key is to keep the pain at bay as opposed to waiting until you’re in serious pain before taking it. You should not lay in pain.

As far as the hospital .. I took the usual stuff .. a toothbrush (because you will want to brush your teeth – maybe not day one .. but ..), hairbrush, very comfy/roomy pajamas. I can’t remember where I got them but I had pj top that unbuttoned on the arms so I could wear that instead of the stupid hospital gowns.

As far as the ileostomy itself .. just remember that most hospitals will use the biggest ostomy bags on you that they have. I think they do that so they don’t have to empty it as often. They will also use clear bags which will totally gross you out (it did me). Just remember .. you do NOT have to use the supplies that they use (or that they send you home with). And you’re not a bad person to be totally grossed out initially. I did a ton of research before my surgery and I felt very prepared emotionally and it still unnerved me at first. I mean, you’re seriously looking at your own poop! ha! But it will get better. Now, I can seriously empty my bag in about 90 seconds. no joke.

I order all my supplies through Edgepark. I like them a lot. Their website is edgepark.com .. Call them now and ask for some samples of different wafers and bags. Tell them when you’re surgery is and that you want to have some options on hand when you come home from the hospital.

I use all pediatric sizes and I use the 2 piece. I, personally, don’t like the one pieces because once it’s full, you have to put a new one on. In my experience, that’s harder on your skin because you’re changing out the adhesive all the time.

I use Coloplast and I love it. I’m not at home right now to get item numbers but I’ll send you another note when I am. You can call Edgepark and ask for these samples – specifically. You might love them .. you might not.

        It’ll be a trial and error ..

        I’ll write more when I can ..

  2. I wish they had given me pediatric bags. I’m a little person – five feet tall, I found the bags all too big and where my stoma is only an inch from my belly button, I’ve never been able to get a good seal. I like coloplast sensura drainable…Someone gave me a bunch, they’re the most comfortable I’ve worn and I’ve had no reaction to the glue on the flange. I’m allergic to a lot of glues. I used Hollister for the most of the past two years. I find the Coloplast much more comfortable and fits the deformity I have from the surgery and being so close to my belly button.

  3. When I had my surgery, I had nothing with me but a backpack. I didn’t know I was staying…so toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, hairbrushes…I ever bought a little makeup in the hospital store because it made me feel more human.
